My 2024 Neewer Q3 review (latest version)

Hello and welcome to my Neewer Q3 review, this review is based on the updated version of the Q3 strobe. The Neewer Q3 flash or strobe is packed with incredible features like the 200 watt output in a small highly portable form factor with over 500 full power flashes from a single charge, HSS up to 1/8000th of a second and more, crazily it costs less than $200.-, how is that even possible?

I have been using the Neewer Q3 now for several months and it has been faultless on every single shoot I have taken it on, I am loving it more and more with every day.

I frequently paired it with my Neewer Q4 flash and my Neewer Z2 strobe, in fact, I have used them all together on a good few occasions now with the Neewer QPro wireless trigger to control them and it has worked beautifully.

Neewer Q3 Price.

Before I get into the tech specs let’s talk about the price first…. Now being able to buy this unit for under $200.- is incredible but the completely nuts part is Neewer has given me a 21% off discount code HAYES21 that gives you another 21% off all their products worldwide so you can buy the Q3 for roughly around $165.- the last time I checked.

The Neewer Q3 comes in two different kits right now…

You can get it with the Q3, the light stand, the charger and the battery or you can also buy it with a small diffuser in the kit for roughly about $20.- more.

Check both the Amazon and Neewer website below before you buy as they frequently have offers and that way you will get the best price possible.

If you purchase the Q3 via my affiliate links or with my discount code I may make a slight commission but it doesn’t cost you anything in fact you can save money with my coupon code 🙂 So thanks for supporting my channel.

I have my Neewer Q3 review video below or read on also if you want to know more.

Neewer Q3 Specifications.

  • 200-watt Strobe.
  • Refresh time of 0.01-1.8 seconds this varies depending on the output power of the Q3. Once you drop the output power down to 1/16th power it recycles incredibly then. Using a lower power setting makes the Q3’s recycling time feel like it’s nearly instant.
  • 500 full power flashes from a full charge. The battery will last a lot longer on lower output settings then.
  • Modeling light built-in although this is a very low-power light.
  • High-speed sync at up to 1/8,000th of a second.
  • Works with the Neewer wireless Q system.
  • 5600k +-200k colour temperature.
  • TTL compatible with Nikon i TTL, Canon E TTL and Sony TTL automatic flash systems.
  • Full support for flash exposure compensation.
  • Manual Output user selected power, First/second curtain synchronization, Supports S1, S2 mode.

What’s in the box with the Neewer Q3

The Q3 itself of course which is a nice soft grey colour and it also has a nice rubbery coating on the case, that just gives you a bit more grip on the light itself which is never a bad thing.

The light bracket/handle screws onto the base of the Q3 and can then be mounted on a light stand or you can also use it as a handle for the unit itself, again the rubber grip here is nice.

The battery which as I mentioned above is a nice capacity but you can also get spares if you need them.

Finally, we have the charging base and the power supply to charge the battery.

Check out my Neewer MS150C review here where I talk you through this 150-watt ultra-portable RGB video light and how it has worked for me.

With wireless control via the Neewer App and battery powering options all for under $300.- it’s one of the best portable RGB lights out there.

Neewer Q3 and why I love it.

The Neewer Q3 has a guide number of 58 and it can deliver up to 500 full power flashes per charge, this is completely incredible when you think it can still fit in your pocket, I just love that so very much.

Speaking of 500 full power flashes a point to note here is if you use a lower output power the battery will keep going for you then. On lower power settings the flash won’t be using as much power so the battery lasts a lot longer.

You can of course buy spare batteries for the Q3 on the Neewer website at a reasonable price if you need extra batteries if you are power mad :-).

The ability to shoot in HSS mode at up to 1/8000th of a second is fantastic again when you are shooting in bright daylight as it’s really going to help you battle direct sunlight and remove that harsh overhead lighting.

The Q3 has a recycling time of between 0.01-1.8 seconds depending on the output power of course. When you are shooting at around 1/16th power or 1/32nd power the recycling time is very fast as you can see in my video above and when you drop the output power even lower it’s even faster.

Once you go up to 1/8th power it slows down slightly and takes slightly longer to recharge, at 1/4 power it recycles roughly about 1/10th of a second and at 1/2 power it’s in and around the 1-second mark and at full power, it takes around 1.8 seconds to recycle. Again I show that in more detail in the video above which is divided into chapters so you can find the information you want quickly.

As you can see it has 8 power levels varying from 1/128th power up to full power.

The Q3 can be very easily controlled by the Neewer Q Pro wireless trigger so you can also pair it with the Q4 or Z2 flashes if you want. The Q3 has 32 channels and 5 groups so setting up multi-strobe shoots is no issue at all and you can easily assign them to different output powers for the exact look you want.

Neewer Q3 vs Godox AD200 Pro

Now, I know a lot of people will be comparing this to the Godox AD 200 Pro as let’s face it they are practically the same unit. The Neewer Q3 is a good bit cheaper at $165.- while the Godox AD 200 Pro is currently retailing for around $299.- on Amazon so for nearly half the price the Q3 is a complete steal.

The Godox ad200 Pro also has a recycling time of 1.8 seconds like the Q3 but in saying that the Godox also has a fresnel lens which ups the GN number to 52 but if you use diffusers as I do then that renders that useless.

So all in all the Neewer Q3 is a lot cheaper and offers much the same features apart from bare bulb mode of course.

You can read my Neewer TL60 review here where I talk you through all the features of this awesome Light Tube.

With two hours of battery life on full power output, RGB, wireless control and a colour picker in app this light is fantastic value for money.

Size

But more importantly, the feature I love about this flash is its size and how it can easily slide into your pocket (ok you might need big pockets) or into the top of your camera bag or a side pocket of the bag, which all means there is no reason not to have it with you at all times then.

It’s also very light and when you think of the power this unit can deliver there are very few flashes around that can compete with output power for its ultra-small footprint.

Review Conclusion

The Neewer Q3 is very bright, ultra-portable and incredibly value for money, so, for me and my photography, it’s a massive yes for this amazing little strobe. The Q3 is an incredible tool to have in my camera bag and I know I keep saying this about Neewer products but at twice the price this strobe would still be a good buy.

See you out there,

Kieran.

Neewer CM28 Lav mic review image

If you are looking for wireless Lav mics then I highly recommed you check out my Neewer CM28 review here.

These mics are fantastic for vlogging and interview use. The one-touch noise reduction works incredibly well in noisy or windy conditions and the fact they are cheap doesn’t hurt either.
